Wedding anniversary dinner at Oblix, The Shard ~ Review

On 7th July, my husband Rom and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary. Looking back at where we’ve been and where we are now, I can only give praise to God. Marriage is sweet. It can be sour, at times – there’s no denying that. But marriage made us stronger over the years. Stronger as a couple, stronger as individuals, and stronger as parents. I have no doubt that this wonderful life with my dear husband is the one God had designed for me way before I was born.

To celebrate, Rom booked a table at Oblix a couple of months ago (yes, you do have to book early!) Click here to visit the website.

Oblix is situated in The Shard. The building is directly next to London Bridge station, so very easy to get to. It was our first time there and we left the place thinking this was the most beautiful place we had ever been to in London. The place is actually quite prestigious and you’ll get very special treatment. Note the smart dress code as well, although we saw a few people dressed in jeans and casual attire – no one got kicked out over it.

We were led to a waiting area and the bar by a lovely hostess and then eventually taken to our table just slightly after our booking time. But we didn’t mind waiting. I used that time to take a few snaps of the view – absolutely breathtaking.

The menu is simple, but great. We ordered a starter, a main and a dessert. We didn’t find the food that expensive, we actually paid a lot less than we thought we would. The prices vary and there are dishes to suit most budgets.

When we got there, the waiter asked us if we were here to celebrate something in particular. We told him we were here for our 9th wedding anniversary, and our dessert was delivered with a lovely little touch – see the photo below. How sweet!

We absolutely loved the food. We got the fried squid as a starter, and some bread and butter. I ordered the sirloin steak, medium rare with hand cut chips as a main. Rom went for the lobster with chips. Being from Martinique, he knows what good lobster is supposed to taste like! Let’s just say he wasn’t disappointed. Very tasty and tender. The only downside is that lobsters here don’t have as much meat as the ones you find in Martinique. But that’s normal I guess, and not something we can really complain about!

We ordered a couple of virgin cocktails and then had ice cream for dessert. So, so delicious, all of it. The service was great too – very attentive waiters who really go out of their way to make you feel at ease, and special. The atmosphere was louder than we thought, but it’s such a popular spot so I wasn’t too surprised. Still a great place for a date or intimate celebration.

As for the views… they are mesmerizing, both during the day and at night. overall I’d give Oblix 4.5 starts out of 5. And I’d highly recommend it.
