Who doesn’t love a fresh, warm bagel? There’s something so satisfying about making them from scratch, and this recipe is simple enough to try, even if you’re a beginner baker. I love to top mine with the Everything Bagel seasoning which you can get here.
Here’s how to create golden, chewy bagels in just a few steps.

Ingredients:
600ml warm water
2 sachets of dried yeast
5 cups bread flour
1 egg (for the egg wash)
Instructions:
1. Start by stirring the yeast into the warm water and covering it for 10 minutes to activate.

2. In a large mixing bowl, pour the yeast mixture into the bread flour and stir until combined.

3. Knead the dough for 10 minutes, then cover and let it rest for 20 minutes.

4. Divide the dough into small balls and let them rest for 20 minutes.

5. Bring a pot of water to boil. While waiting, shape the balls into classic bagel rings and carefully drop the bagels into the boiling water, boiling each side for 1-2 minutes.

6. Transfer the bagels to a baking sheet, add an egg wash to each bagel and sprinkle Everything Bagel seasoning and bake at 180°C for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.

Serve your freshly baked bagels plain, or go all out with your favorite toppings and spreads. Trust me, they taste even better knowing you made them yourself!

Enjoy your homemade bagels, and let me know how they turn out in the comments!
